I clicked the 3/5 for the review, but I would actually give this more like a 3.5. For the sale price, I think the game is well worth it!
The Cons:
There is not a whole lot of interaction with NPCs, the maps are rather limited, and there isn't the normal amount of wandering that I usually enjoy with rpgs. Along with this, none of the houses are open for exploration. There's also a fair amount of spelling mistakes, but that's not a biggy for me, since English is not the creator's first language, and you can still easily follow the story.
The story itself is pretty simple. I think it could have had a little more story/reminders as to what is motivating the main character and why he's motivated. On top of that, you really learn virtually nothing about the other party members--no back story, no motivators, and they really don't have much of a personality either.
The Pros:
The game doesn't make you backtrack continually. I really like this because I do get sick of the backtracking in other games. Additionally, since the maps are smaller, when you do have to backtrack, it doesn't take you all that long.
It is easy to earn money in the game and to level up by completing quests. This is great because I also get sick of grinding to try and level and get money. Instead, a good chunk of both money and experiences comes from completing the quests, which makes the game much more interesting.
There are also a lot of chests containing advanced weapons and armor, which also cuts down on the costs and the grinding. Really, about the only time I did have to grind was near the end when I was trying to get to a certain level needed to open some of the trunks, and even that wasn't nearly as bad as in other games.
The skill system is a pay as you go system--you just buy the skills from different dealers as you level up and get the money.
The story is developed well enough to keep you going, trying to figure out just what's going on.
Tips/Spoilers:
1) Make sure you have enough magic and health items before the ghost takes you up to the second floor in the tower (I forget the name of the place, but it's after you go to the ice cave)--otherwise, you are stuck starting over if you run out because once you go up, you can't come down til you defeat the big, bad guy, and there are a lot of really nasty battles . I couldn't walk more than 5-10 steps without a battle in the tower, and there are a lot of places where you have to backtrack and/or there are extra "things" to go through.
2) Get all supplies and all level 24 & up chests before you go to the light and dark keys because once you go, you can't come back.
